Job Title Chief Executive Officer - National Council For Special Education

The National Council for Special Education is a statutory body under the aegis of the Department of Education and Skills. It was established in 2004 and its functions include the provision of a range of services at local and national level in order to support the educational needs of children with disabilities, the undertaking of research and provision of policy advice to the Minister for Education and Skills on the formulation and implementation of special education policy.

The Chief Executive Officer, reporting to the Council, will have authority and accountability for all aspects of the operations of the National Council for Special Education. The CEO will be responsible to the Council for all aspects of its work within the relevant legislative and other frameworks.

The successful candidate for this position will have:

• A proven track record of significant achievement at a senior level that demonstrates the necessary strategic leadership and operational management skills;
• Strong policy analysis capacity, and proven administrative ability;
• An ability to manage and lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver services in a complex environment;
• A good knowledge of the education system and a strong understanding of special education issues;
• The capacity to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders; influence effectively at a strategic level and work effectively with the Council.

The appointment is for a seven year term and will be based in the Council’s Headquarters in Trim.
